Strategic Planning for New Churches Presbyterian Church (USA) New Church Development in
The Presbyteries of Cherokee, Greater Atlanta, Northeast Georgia
The formation of new churches in the Presbyterian Church (USA) is a multi-faceted task. The heart of our mission is to reach people with the saving gospel of Jesus Christ. This implies a primary mission responsibility for persons outside of Christ’s Church. Of parallel importance is the nurture, training, and deployment of experienced Christians for service both within and outside the church. This is a critical distinction if we are to succeed.
The Presbyterian Joint Commission for New Church Development for Cherokee, Greater Atlanta, and Northeast Georgia Presbyteries was created in May, 2000, through action taken by each presbytery. Since that time, the Joint Commission has worked to develop policies and procedures for new church development while at the same time supporting the work of new church developments already underway and identifying priorities for the location of new churches.
